A major work of strategic importance for tourism development in Montenegro that will connect the city of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the resort of Kuk, which is located 1,348 meters above sea level on Mount Lovćen within one of the most spectacular nature parks in Dalmatia. The 3.9-kilometer route will be covered in less than eleven minutes, and the trip can be made by 1,000 passengers per hour. Work on the first sea-mountain gondola lift in the Adriatic, to be built and operated for the next 30 years will be the South Tyrolean company LEITNER joined in a consortium with local construction company Novi Volvox.

Both have decided to rely on the Teufelberger - Redaelli Brand for steel ropes, which, thanks to a close cooperation that has always been strengthened over the years, continuing to design more and more high-performance ropes for their installations, has assigned us this new challenge.

Thanks to the cooperation of our sales department and design office we proposed (and subsequently acquired the order) with a Solitec 636 rope 58 mm. diameter evente a total tonnage of just under 110 tons.

A challenge life with pride that will allow the direct connection from the sea to the mountain (one of the very few in Europe).

In fact, the route of the gondola starts from the locality of Dub, within the coastal municipality of Kotor, in the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the road tunnel connecting Kotor with Tivat, and after 3.9 kilometers arrives at the locality of Kuk on Mount Lovćen at 1,348 meters above sea level.

  • Length: 3902m
  • Height difference: 1316m
  • P/h: 1200
  • Number of cabins: 40
  • The expected number of passengers during the first year of operation: 400,000
  • Travel time: 11min (resulting in significant savings compared to the current car ride)

Also notable is the contribution of the work in terms of sustainability in such a fragile environment as Lovćen Park. Indeed, with its construction, the use of the old, winding Njeguš road will be almost completely avoided, and this aspect will contribute both to its better preservation and to the reduction of pollution due to the lower amount of harmful gases emitted by cars and buses. Once at the upstream station, in an area increasingly rich in environmentally friendly tourist facilities and services, passengers will be able to enjoy one of the most beautiful views in the world: the Bay of Kotor. A place that is increasingly becoming the preferred destination of international tourist routes.
