Flexpack Breaks Records Again: The World's Heaviest Steel Rope

We are delighted to share a momentous achievement at Teufelberger-Redaelli: our groundbreaking Flexpack steel rope has secured a new Guinness World Record, proudly standing as the heaviest steel rope globally, with a remarkable weighing 495.9162 tons, has a nominal diameter of 160mm and a Minimum Breaking Load of 2166mT with a nominal length of over 4 kilometres.

This achievement marks our fifth consecutive GWR in the engineering and technology field. The Flexpack rope was produced at our Trieste plant over a span of seven months, with over 50 dedicated professionals involved in various stages, including design, procurement, manufacturing, and installation.

Flexpack's specific design, provides a perfect combination of factors tailored to meet the most challenging subsea applications, such as offshore abandonment and recovery, and pipe laying operations The new design optimizes all axial and transverse forces to which the rope is subjected.

With unique features and applications, Flexpack has become the rope of choice for major players in the offshore industry, with over 65,000 tons of high-performance metal ropes ranging from 76mm to 160mm in diameter supplied for offshore applications. Teufelberger-Redaelli has produced over 1323 kilometers of ropes. The new rope, in particular, will be used for abandonment and recovery missions on winches with a Safety Working Load of 750/1000 tons in subsea operations conducted in ultra-deep waters.
